
“One of the tools I demonstrated at the IDC conference was the Hamster and Ferret tools as created by Errata Security. Through my presentation I gave credit where it was due, this however did not filter to the journalist who covered the
story.
“I then went on to outline that any wireless device is susceptible to this attack when using a public wireless hotspot. Given the launch of the iPhone and the cost of data plans in Australia that the iPhone would increase the potential number of devices to attack.
“In fact I even re-iterated this in the afternoon with the journalist over the phone. It didn't make it to the story however, as I suppose it didn't have enough edge for him.”
It is readily apparent that Gatford was making a valid point, and that the hype came from my source. My thanks to Chris Gatford for correcting the impression left by our source and our column.
