As our regular readers know, I have been using Open Office, the free Open Source replacement for Microsoft Office, for some time. This office suite of products does what it does so well, right out of the box, that I had not even thought of looking for add-ons to the product. The other evening, while poking around the Web, I found some anyway!
A sub-site of smalldataproblem.org calling itself OO Extras has collected a small but growing assortment of add-ons for the Open office Writer, Calc, and Draw applications. Just like Open Office itself, the extras are free of charge. These items include:- Word processing templates for frequently produced documents, such as newsletter, invoices, legal pleadings, documentation, etc.
- Special-purpose spreadsheet templates, some automated, for applications such as check registers, budgeting, invoicing, vehicle service records, etc.
- Draw tools for printing labels, greeting cards, and CD case covers.
There are only a couple of dozen free Open Office Extras so far, but the list appears to be growing. It would be worth checking back once in a while to see what has been added.
