If you think that once Microsoft Vista comes out that you will just be able to load it on your old PC or laptop, you will be disappointed.  To run Vista well you will probably need a new machine:

Processor - 1 Ghz 32-bit or 64bit

System Memory - 1GB

Graphics - a Windows Aero Capable card

Graphics Memory - 128MB

Hard Drive Space - 40GB

Free Space - 15GB

Optical Drive - DVD-ROM

I would recommend getting an Intel Core Duo processor with your new computer or upgrading to one.  Intel's new chips are very fast.  I would also recommend getting a larger hard drive anywhere from 100 GB to 250 GB.  Of course hard drive depends on what you are planning on doing with Vista.  I would also get a graphics card that is 256 MB, this would help a lot with Vista's new Aero feature.
