Carbon Copy Cloner is an archival type of back up software. You can take your whole Mac OS X system while running and make a carbon copy or clone to another device like an other hard drive, iPod, Firewire drive, or USB drive.
I have a co-worker who had an old Apple ibook running Mac OS X. He wanted to clone his old ibook onto his new ibook. The problem was he had a bad ethernet (network) port and a bad firewire port. So I took my 60 GB ipod and connected to his USB port and used Carbon Copy Cloner to back up his entire system to my ipod as a Mac OS X disk image. I then used Mac OS X’s built in utility, Disk Utility, to move the image over to his new ibook.
Later on BestBizWare I will post a How-to on the process I used to save my co-worker’s data. Maybe it will save your system some day.
Carbon Copy Cloner is developed by Mike Bombich. You can download it at: http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html

Sounds interesting, Joe. I want to know what you think about the online backup solutions out there - Mozy, Multiply, Box.net, and that type of tool. Certainly backup is becoming more important and probably more lucrative.
